Anticipated to retail at under $20 000 on-road, driveaway-no-more-to-pay, Skoda has given its Fabia an update for the 2017 model year, with the revised model showing-off a powerful, new 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. 1. Powerful, reliable and cheap to run - The new Skoda Fabia's 1.0 litre engine is the same TSI unit used by others in the Volkswagen Group family.
The new engine replaces the current 1.2 litre four-cylinder engine but continues to provides a choice of two power outputs - 70kW/160Nm or 81kW/200Nm - front wheel drive.
The 70kW unit can propel the Fabia to 100km/h in 10.6 seconds (0.3 seconds quicker than before), with a top speed of 185km/h.
The 81kW unit with a top speed of 196km/h, is a full 1.1 seconds faster to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds.
The smaller capacity brings improvements to both emissions and fuel consumption, both options performing in the 4.3-4.5 litre per 100km range on a consistent basis.

Skoda’s Connect Services, including Infotainment Online and Care Connect brings real-time info on congestion, nearby facilities (such as service stations), parking and emergency services or breakdown connectivity. Skoda even provides potential owners with a handy umbrella, stowed under the front seats, and an ice scraper stored on the fuel door (for those of you in our chilly southern states). 3. Safety features include Front Assist with autonomous emergency braking at city speeds, adaptive cruise control, fatigue detection, tyre pressure monitoring and Skoda’s multi-collision braking system.
