• Have your car serviced regularly.

Incorrectly inflated tyres are also unsafe. Check them monthly to ensure your manoeuvrability and braking is not compromised.

Ask your mechanic to check your tyres are balanced and aligned on your next service.

• Watch petrol prices in your area

Avoid filling your vehicle on weekends and public holidays. Fuel prices often sneak up from Thursday through to Sunday; fuel prices are frequently at their lowest on Monday and Tuesday of each week.

• Drive consistently, gently and smoothly.

Ask your friends and family if they know an honest mechanic worthy of a recommendation. If not, try a local mechanic with your next service or a minor job to see if you can trust them with something more major should it be required.

• Don’t Speed.

Speeding can add 10% or more to your annual fuel bill. Drive with a lighter foot and watch the extra dollars return to your wallet.
