Why Australia Should Watch Out for Mazda in 2015

Mazda 2015

It’s the time of year when car manufacturers reveal their plans for different global territories for the coming year. It looks like Australia is set to see some interesting developments in 2015, according to the media release issued by Mazda last week. The company is set to launch four new and updated models, some of which have already been revealed at major international motor shows.

The two new models are likely to cause most excitement in the domestic marketplace. Top of the list is the new MX-5 Roadster, which is due to arrive later in the year. As we wrote earlier this year, the iconic red 2-door convertible is now entering its 25th year, and this iconic model is going to be available in a luxurious Limited Edition, with just 40 shipped to Australian shores.

Enthusiasts on slightly more restricted budgets will be pleased to learn that the new MX-5 is going to be available in wallet-friendly 1.5L and sporty 2L versions, making the wait highly worthwhile.

The other new model due to arrive is the CX-3, the compact SUV that was unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November. This model took its time arriving and even now is making Australia wait until autumn. As a slightly different take on the compact SUV concept, the 2-door CX-3 has been described as a ‘subcompact crossover’, with a lightweight chassis, Mazda’s distinctive Kodo (‘soul of motion’) design and an economical 2.0L Skyactiv four-cylinder engine.

The rest of the Mazda line-up consists of refreshed models. The CX-5, currently Australia’s best-selling mid-size SUV, will be revised with improvements to suspension and noise insulation. It will also feature some new safety and convenience features.

The Mazda6 will be subject to more significant changes, with the sedan and wagon versions displaying more obvious style changes, along with a wider range of safety assist features. Mazda has highlighted the increased noise reduction and improved suspension.

Finally, the BT-50 Ute is being refreshed with a sharper new look that’s more in line with Mazda’s current range. The 2015 facelift means the model is more likely to be taken up by the commercial market, rather than the private buyer market that currently forms its base.

Whatever kind of vehicle you’re in the market for, it seems that Mazda has a distinctively designed model to add to your list next year.
