If you're a confirmed boating enthusiast, the Gold Coast is certainly the place to be from 19th to 22nd May, when the 6^th annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo takes place in Coomera. Designed to reinvent the concept of the traditional boat show, the Expo is fast becoming the southern hemisphere’s leading event for anyone passionate about all things aquatic.

Following a successful Expo in 2015, which saw over 17,000 visitors in 4 days, this year’s event has already sold and booked 90% of its exhibitor space. If you went to the Expo in 2015, you’ll still find plenty to interest you this year, as close to 15% of the companies are first-time exhibitors. 

Event and Marketing Manager Emma Brown reports that the Expo is consolidating its reputation for presenting the world’s leading brands, with everything from luxury motor and sailing yachts, through to trailer boats, jet skis and kayaks on the 2016 exhibitor list. 

Even if you’re not in the market for a new vessel, you can browse displays featuring every kind of engine, boating accessory and type of fishing equipment.

Unusually, the Expo is a not-for-profit event, designed to bring associated business to the Gold Coast. Taking place at the Gold Coast Marine Precinct, the heart of the southern hemisphere’s largest recreational shipyards, luxury motor yacht and aluminium boat building facilities, the 2015 event was successful in attracting many visitors to the area. 

This was partly due to the innovative combination of marine displays and family attractions, in addition to the comprehensive range of exhibitor stands – all to be repeated and even improved on in 2016. Excellent transport links and al fresco dining will make a full-day or 2-day visit both easy and enjoyable to arrange.

With this in mind, it’s not surprising that the Expo recently received the Australian Events Industry’s Best Exhibition award for 2015. Emma Brown says, "Being named Best Exhibition is a real boost for our small Expo team.” However, organisers will not rest on their laurels, for they are determined to build on their success and do even better in 2016.
